Best Time to Do a Newborn Session?
You’ve no doubt heard the saying, timing is everything. Actress Drew Barrymore famously said, “I’m such a profound believer that timing is everything; I would tattoo that on my arm.” I think we’d all agree that timing is very important even if we don’t necessarily believe that it’s categorically, irrefutably everything. Everything after all covers, well, every single thing. That said, when it comes to the question of booking a newborn session, timing does matter. So, when is the best time to get photographs of a newborn baby?
Newborn Session: Inside 14 Days
Professional newborn photography is well-known for its majestic and beautiful poses. Yes, those iconic sleepy-curly poses that sets our heart aflutter and our knees a-trembling. You know the ones I’m talking about.
If this is what you’re after, these popular poses, then the timing of your newborn session in important.
The best time for a newborn session is when your little treasure is between 6 and 14 days.
Why? For two main reasons. Firstly, during these early days, your little one is sleepier, and therefore, you’re more likely to get the images you want. And secondly, it’s during these early days that newborn infants continue to mimic the curly poses they adopted in the womb.
As they enter the third week of their little lives, they become far more alert and therefore, more likely to become restless. They also quickly grow out of their curly womb-like poses.
Have you missed this short window? Don’t worry and don’t be discouraged. We will still be able to get a wide range of gorgeous poses during your newborn session. It’s important, however, to be aware that beyond the 14-day guideline, your newborn won’t be as willing or ‘compliant’ when it comes to certain poses.
As much as timing is within your power, look to schedule a newborn session well in advance. The last thing you need is a rush at the last minute to find a photographer who can squeeze you in. Choose peace of mind instead. Get the booking done, knowing you’re organised and that getting those iconic poses of your little one is more likely. Take charge of your time, because when it comes to a newborn session, timing is everything.
